Courtney T. Joiner is added to the Baton Rouge Office

Hammonds, Sills, Adkins and Guice LLP is pleased to announce that Courtney T. Joiner has rejoined the firm after serving the last two years as an Assistant United States Attorney with the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of Louisiana.  At the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Courtney was assigned to the civil division and represented the United States in appellate and defensive litigation matters including medical malpractice, employment discrimination, regulatory activities, immigration and challenges to federal agency actions.  Courtney also served as the head of the Financial Litigation Unit where he enforced the collection of criminal and civil debts owed to the United States and the victims of federal crimes
 
Courtney was an associate at the firm from 2009 to 2012, focusing his practice on complex civil litigation, labor and employment, workers’ compensation, education law and insurance defense.  During his earlier tenure at the firm, he worked on a variety of significant cases, including a successful argument before the Louisiana Supreme Court in Credit v. Richland Parish School Board, 85 So.3d 669 (La. 3/13/12).
 
Courtney is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Monroe where he received a B.A. degree in 2002 and a M.A. degree in 2004.  A student-athlete, Courtney was a member of the ULM football and track teams.  He received his J.D. degree in 2007 from Southern University Law Center where he served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Southern University Law Review.
