2018 HSAG Louisiana School Law Workshop Draws 300 From Across the State

09/14/2018 1:22 PM

HSAG concluded our annual Louisiana School Law Workshop this afternoon. This year's workshop was held at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Several dozen superintendents and nearly 260 others attended our 1.5 day workshop regarding updates and important information about Louisiana School Law.

Partners Bob Hammonds and Jon Guice participated in several sessions about topics ranging from discipline, to Acts of the Legislature, religion, and everything in between. In total there were 11 sessions, including some concurrent sessions led by Evan Alvarez and Charles Hardie regarding various procurement, architectural topics and even one concerning public records requests. One of HSAG's newest partners, Wayne Stewart, along with Jon Guice, presented a discipline session from both the regular student and special education student's point of view. Partner Elmer Noah presented information about recent cases of interest to public education. Ty Manieri also presented regarding social media and it's effects on schools, a very timely topic in today's rapidly changing environment. The workshop closed out with a new addition, using polling software to gather real-time input from our audience during Bob and Jon's "Stump the Lawyer" session.

We received many helpful evaluations and comments for this year's workshop, and look forward to making the 2019 edition of the Louisiana School Law Workshop the best yet.

Thank you to all who attended this year's workshop, and we look forward to seeing you next year!
